Cruise Passenger Requests Room With a ‘View’—Can’t Cope With What’s Outside

A video of a passenger’s “breathtaking” view on a cruise in Alaska has captivated users on TikTok.
The clip was shared by @amber.jones25, which has had over 107,000 views since it was posted on August 31, shows a person opening the door of a room on a cruise with Silversea Cruises.
A note overlaid on the clip says “Requested a room with a view.” The camera goes across the room, all the way to the other side toward a balcony where a sliding glass door is shown to be open. The camera then goes onto the balcony, revealing a picturesque waterside view of the pristine Hubbard Glacier sitting under a bright blue sky.

A caption shared with the post simply says “breathtaking.”
Unlike most glaciers in Alaska and northwestern Canada, the Hubbard Glacier thickened and advanced during the 20th century, notes a September 2017 study in the Annals of Glaciology.
According to another study in the Journal of Glaciology, this one from 2022, “Alaska contains 12 percent of the world’s glacier area outside of the ice sheets” and nearly all of its glaciers are “thinning and retreating at increasing rates of melt.”

The viral post comes as cruise passenger volume in 2023 reached 31.7 million, surpassing the figure reported in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic, by 7 percent, according to a 2024 report from the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA).
The number of passengers who are new to cruising was found to be on the rise. Just over a quarter (27 percent) of cruise goers in the past two years were found to be new to cruising, marking a 12 percent increase on the year before, according to the CLIA.
